South End Bridgeport CT is a neighborhood located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The neighborhood is close to the Bridgeport harbor and the rest of the city, which are both located at the end of State Street, where The Shore Line East makes its stop in downtown Bridgeport. The neighborhood has a number of parks and attractions that provide residents with recreational opportunities. These include;

Seaside Park

Bridgeport’s premier waterfront destination, Seaside Park – is in high season during the summer. There are currently 8 AM – Dusk hours at Seaside. Access to the park by car requires a park sticker. For cyclists, there is a cycle path. Parks stickers are also available.

A bus permit is required in order to enter Seaside. At the park’s office or at checkpoints, permits can be obtained ahead of time.

This park on the Eastern Seaboard offers lush lawns, shady glades, and expansive sports fields as it rolls toward Long Island Sound. Beaches, wave action, and sunshine line the sparkling coastline for three miles. Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park shortly after the Civil War, who also designed Manhattan’s Central Park and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. They continue to draw new generations of park-goers to their timeless landscapes from the 19th century.
Fayerweather Island is located at the western end of the park. By crossing the breakwater rocks, visitors can reach this natural wildlife preserve. Lighthouses on the island guided ships through Black Rock Harbor between 1823 and 1932.

It is widely believed that the famous Bridgeport resident P.T. Barnum played a major role in the development of the park. Barnum envisioned the first marine park in America as pasture land, woods, and salt marshes. In his autobiography, he described the landscape of Seaside before it was transformed

St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea

A scenic view of Long Island Sound and Black Rock Harbor can be enjoyed from St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea. This waterfront park attracts many outdoor enthusiasts to Bridgeport, and it is one of the qualities that set Black Rock apart.

Visitors can enjoy the cool sea breeze while relaxing on the beach, on the grass, or at picnic tables. A half-mile walkway connects Ash Creek to the Black Rock Yacht Club, where walkers can take a pleasant stroll.

The City of Bridgeport requires Parks Stickers to be displayed during the summer months in the immediate vicinity of parks.

University of Bridgeport

The South End neighborhood of Bridgeport is also home to the University of Bridgeport.

A private institution founded in 1927, the University of Bridgeport is located in Connecticut. The campus size is 86 acres, and there are 3,233 undergraduate students enrolled (fall 2019). Classes are held in semesters. The University of Bridgeport is ranked National Universities, #299-#391 in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges.

Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, is home to the University of Bridgeport. A wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered at the University of Bridgeport.
