A neighborhood in southeast Bridgeport known as Boston Avenue/Mill Hill is situated on the eastern border, bordered by the Town of Stratford to the east, the Lake Success Business Park (also known as Remington Woods) to the north, Seaview Avenue to the west, and Barnum Avenue to the south.
Even though it is largely residential, Brooklyn Avenue/Mill Hill is known for its educational and medical institutions, including the Bridgeport Hospital and numerous doctors’ offices.
The Mill Hill neighborhood falls within census tracts 732, 733 and 737, along with Bridgeport City Council Districts 138 and 139, Connecticut Senatorial District 23, and Connecticut Assembly District 124. As with all of Bridgeport, this neighborhood falls within the 4th United States Congressional District.
Several low-rise multifamily buildings and single-family homes can be found in the Mill Hill neighborhood, as well as the high density co-ops of Success Village. In addition to Bridgeport Hospital, the large open areas of Lake Success and the former General Electric plant dominate the neighborhood. On Seaview and Barnum Avenues, the neighborhood’s southern and western edges are dominated by industrial uses.
Mill Hill has a similar age distribution to Bridgeport, with 52% of residents between 25 and 64, and 33% under 24. With 8,216 people per square mile, this neighborhood is moderately dense. Mill Hill has 42 percent of residents who identify as black, while 37 percent identify as Hispanic.
The Mill Hill neighborhood is home to almost 3,000 jobs. Ahlbin Rehabilitation Medicine and Bridgeport Hospital are the top two employers.
There are two places in Remington City and Remington Village which are part of the National Register of Historic Places, Remington City and Remington Village. Historic District Commission #1 oversees all exterior repairs within both districts, which were built before or during World War I.
Bridgeport Hospital is a not-for-profit general medical and surgical hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, located in the Boston Avenue/Mill Hill neighborhood. Members of Yale New Haven Health System and affiliated with Yale School of Medicine, Bridgeport Hospital has received professional recognition for excellence in geriatric care, diabetes treatments, human rights, and local economic partnership.
A total of 501 beds are available at Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. The hospital has over 2,900 employees and more than 1,110 physicians representing more than 60 subspecialties; 230 residents and fellows are enrolled in programs affiliated with Yale School of Medicine.
Children can be found playing at both Success Park and Manila Street Playground, and the neighborhood is home to Edison Elementary School located on Boston Terrace and Capital Preparatory Harbor Lower School on Mill Hill Avenue.
