Bloomfield, CT, is the hometown of many artists. Karl Bitter and David Rogers were born in Bloomfield, CT, two of the most well-known and highly awarded American sculptors. From 1892 to 1929, Bitter designed nearly 200 public monuments and created busts that became milestones of American art. He was also a teacher at the Art Students League for over 40 years. David Rogers was born in Bloomfield in 1933 and is known for his large-scale environmental steel sculptures. He has been commissioned to create artworks worldwide, including a permanent sculpture garden at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

In addition to its rich artistic heritage, Bloomfield, CT, is also home to many fine art pieces, including the first central abstract sculpture by Alexander Calder. It is governed by the town meeting form of government, in which the Town Council is the legislative body and The Town Administrator is the chief administrative officer.

Today, the Bloomfield Police Department is located in The Town Hall at 45 Columbus Avenue.

The Town of Bloomfield has an elected Mayor and a six-member town council. There are two election districts in the town. Elections are nonpartisan and occur every odd numbered year (November) on the first Tuesday of that month. The current mayor is Michael J. Venezia, who won in November 2015.

In addition to the Town Hall, the town’s central government administrative offices are housed in several buildings which branch off of Columbus Avenue; including The Armory (at 941 Blue Hills Ave), The Municipal Complex (at 865 Bloomfield Ave), and the Fire Department Headquarters (at 1001 Broad St).

There is also a Public Works shop on Wilcox Avenue.

The Town of Bloomfield contracts with the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) for police and fire services. The MDC also provides water and sewer services to Bloomfield.
